Exploring the Body as Colonial Occupation

Switching between writing and performance, Jota Mombaça is an artist kicking against the violent occupation of their body by historical oppressive forces. Born and raised in Natal, Brazil, Mombaça highlights coloniality as a never-ending system of war reproduction, at times by employing their own blood. C&’s editor Will Furtado met the artist to discuss the body as the site and target of colonialism.
