When the war broke out in Sudan, Zeinab Abbas Badawi insisted on staying in Sudan but eventually had to flee with her extended family to Egypt, where she now lives as a refugee.
As a first-hand witness to a brutal war that has resulted in the unspeakable loss and displacement of countless Sudanese people, Badawi shares personal reflections in a paper titled "Bullets Versus Women's Voices. A feminist account of the armed conflict in Sudan."
In her account, she attempts to unravel the Gordian knot of complex factors from which the conflict sprung and its impact on the economy and gender relations. Her accounts are further echoed and expanded on through the voices of fellow Sudanese women in the documentary Hagana Kamil: Celebrating the Radical Resistance of Sudanese Women.
