Carceral feminism is not the answer

This article discusses the need to reimagine our conceptions of feminist justice in South Africa: Putting people in cages is not liberation. A solution to gender-based violence that does not include prisons must thus tackle a range of oppressions and must include a network of alternatives working in tandem to crowd out prisons. If we know that many sexual offenders in South Africa struggle with trauma, addiction and poverty, then solutions should tackle those root causes.
