Behind the Seams: Understanding labor conditions in the Argentine garment sector through worker experiences

This publication is a by-product of the Rapid Sector Appraisal carried out by the Evidence for Action project: Increasing the impact of research to mobilize efforts against forced labor in the garment sector of Madagascar and Argentina, implemented by the ILO, in conjunction with Verité and NORC, with funding from the United States Department of Labor. This project aims to promote greater use of research in policy and programmatic decision-making to help eliminate forced labor worldwide. The project seeks to increase knowledge through robust research in the garment sector and based on this, mobilize decision makers and stakeholders to take action against rights violations. This publication features direct testimonies of workers in the garment sector in Argentina, many of whom are migrants and live in vulnerable situations. Providing quotes and direct perspectives from workers on various human and labor rights topics, the purpose of this report is to provide highly relevant information for the prevention of potential situations of labor exploitation and problems related to decent work gaps in Argentina.
