DEGROWTH FOR GLOBAL JUSTICE #1

For generations, communities in the Global South and Indigenous Peoples have engaged in relational and productive practices that promote harmony among different spheres of life, centering collective wellbeing and a sense of belonging to a larger ecological balance. Traditions such as Buen Vivir and Ubuntu are examples of Indigenous knowledge that offer solutions to current ecological challenges. The notion of degrowth derives from these traditions and recognizes the historical and current responsibility of Global North countries in perpetuating structural inequalities and ecocide. This degrowth framework emphasizes the need for differentiated approaches for the Global North and Global South, advocating for a transition toward a post-extractivism stage in Global South countries, grounded in principles of equity and reparations. Additionally, initial feminist proposals within the field of degrowth are presented, analyzed from a decolonial perspective and rooted in a feminist structural tradition.
