Feminists have used the tools of political economy to explain the role of household structures, women’s position and reproductive labour in sustaining capitalism. In this session Professor Lyn Ossome explains the phenomenon of “Social Reproduction”. Nothing is natural, things are made natural. The world we live in is made to function in a particular way to serve certain interests, these are the interests of the patriarchal and capitalist structures. The session delves into the daily and generational reproductive labour that goes into sustaining the existing structures and institutions and how they are based in the exploitation of the marginalised people in the society. Gain critical insights about how social reproduction is sustained? What are the institutions central to sustaining the current reality and how we can challenge this? in this insightful session.
