Towards Transformative Justice: A Decolonial, Pan-African Feminist Approach to Reparations

The legacy of colonialism, the transatlantic slave trade, and imperial exploitation is deeply gendered and racialised. Colonialism did not merely impose foreign rule, it systematically reinvented African social structures, identities and gender relations. The case for reparations is not only about addressing historical harm, but about confronting the ongoing legacies of colonialism and the neoliberal dispossession of African womxn that persist in the present. Helen Kezie-Nwoha, Njoki Wamai, Panashe Chigumadzi and Toni Haastrup explore reparations from a decolonial Pan-African feminist perspective and rethink justice, repair, and accountability on the continent.
